Prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii and Cytomegalovirus in Sera of Aborted Women in Samaraa city

The aim of this study was to detect the relationship between Toxoplasmosis, Cytomegalovirus infections and occurrence of abortion. The records of 173 aborted women between age of less than twenty years and fifty years old attending to the hospital of Samaraa general hospital from October 2015 to April 2016 were reviewed. Investigation by using VIDAS technique represented that T. Gondii antibodies showed in 54(31.2 %) of aborted women ,while 23(13.3 %) represented infected with Cytomegalovirus and 7(4.1%) were infected with both Toxoplasmosis and Cytomegalovirus. Also the study showed that 77 (44.5%) of aborted women were in aged groups between 21-30 years old ,and the anti-toxoplasmosis IgM &IgG found in 66(38.2%) and anti-cytomegalovirus IgM &IgG found only in 30(17.34%) in aborted women.

Prevalence of Giardia lamblia parasites among Iraqi displaced patients attending hospitals of Salah Al-Deen province /Tiktit

   The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and to identify the risk factors associated with Giardia lamblia infection among Iraqi displaced diarrheic people who had been attended different hospitals in Salah Al-Deen province from areas which severely affected from conflicts and crisis in Iraq, from period November 2015 to April 2016. For this purpose, 803 stool samples from both gender and ages from below one year to more than forty four years were collected from peoples. Two laboratory methods where performed on each collected stool sample; direct double wet preparation of 0.85% of NaCl solution and1% Lugol s iodine. Six hundred and sixteen were found to be positive for Giardia sp. Out of 803 tested samples , a significance variance found in monthly distribution of infections with G. lamblia were found in April with 166 cases in (26.948%) followed by 154 (25%) infections in March while the lowest rate of infections were seen in January with 65(10.551%). Three hundred and thirty one (53.7336 %) of cases found to be male patients while 285(46.26623%)were female with a non significance variance in gender . According to age groups, 6-10 years old were the more prevalence rate of infection 174 (28.246%) followed by 137 (22.240%) for age groups 11-15 years old, while the lowest rate found in age group less than one year in 55(8.928%) patients. Also this study showed that 91 (27.492%) represented male patients in age group 6-10 years old and 83 (29.122%) were female in the same age group while 28 (8.459%) male patients were found in age group less than one years and the lowest percentage of infections were found in female at the same age group (less than one years old) in 27 (9.473%).

Purification of metacyclic Leishmanial promastigotes by using Peanut Lectin agglutinin test .

Abstract :

Metacyclic promastigotes are transmitted during bloodmeals after development inside the gut of the sandfly vector. The isolation from axenic cultures of procyclic and metacyclic promastigotes by peanut lectin agglutination followed by differential centrifugation is controversial in Leishmania major . The purpose of this study has been to isolate both fractions simultaneously from the same population in stationary phase of axenic culture. we have confirmed the increased infection rate of PNApromastigotes by inoculated in BALB/c mice infection experiments. These data support that metacyclic promastigotes are related with infectivity and the lack of agglutination with PNA is a phenotypic marker for this subpopulation.

In Vitro new experimentally culture media for Leishmania         Species cultivation

A fifty four different biphasic media were used to cultivate promastigote parasite of Leishmania tropica and compared with ordinary NNN medium, to find a cow milk agar medium can provide a good cultivation to the parasite as well as the ordinary medium, where milk is a cheap and simple, and a good source of lipids, protein, carbohydrate, and calcium. Also, using a 20% of human urine, can enhance the growth rate of parasite , this reduced the time that needed to cultivate the parasite in the ordinary NNN medium. So, using of a modified NNN medium (medium that used the solid phase of ordinary NNN and 20% of human urine as liquid phase) in the field of laboratory can provide a short duration to cultivate Leishmania parasite. The count of Leishmania tropica, promastigotes ,taken from NNN medium reached, 3 × 106/ml at the end of the 6th day in our new medium, while in NNN medium the number of organisms reached only 1× 106 / ml. also 9.7×107 promastigotes found after the fourteen days of cultivation in media supplemented with urine and 22×106promastigotes in the tenth days in media with milk .After several passages, the culture medium ,prepared was .evaluated as, being quite simple, inexpensive, and successful ,compared with, other commercially ,available ,culture media.
